How many sporting events have 250 people show up just to catch a glimpse of the ticket?
That’s what happened at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center on Thursday night, when the ticket to the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 was unveiled.
The ticket features last year’s Indy 500 winner, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, who could not be in attendance. He had a pretty good excuse though.
As Hunter-Reay told corporate members of the 500 Festival in a video, his wife Beccy gave birth to their second son on Thursday morning.
“I’m sure you’ll be seeing him at the racetrack, we already have his DHL firesuit on order.” -Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay on his newborn son
That’s what the Indianapolis 500 means to this community. Hundreds of people gathered downtown to see the ticket to the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. You can get your ticket at indianapolismotorspeedway.com.
There’s a lot of talk of May in Indiana. And it can’t get here soon enough. Looking at the forecast, I think it’s working.
Think spring, people…
And specifically, think May 24, 2015.
This year’s Indianapolis 500 is just a few months away.
I can’t wait to complain about the heat.
