Dear Colts Nation,
I’ve seen many things this week and feel a sense of duty to address some of them.
There’s a whole lot of judging going on right now, targeted at the Colts, the owner, the fans, our former quarterback, our current quarterback, and this weekend’s Sunday Night Football game.
The first thing I want to say is, everybody…calm down!
We all had our own relationship with Peyton Manning. Jim Irsay, more than anyone (since he was signing his paychecks). Irsay is disappointed the Colts didn’t win more Super Bowls. That’s fine. My mom is disappointed I’m not still a news anchor. That’s alright. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
As Colts fans, we all have our own feelings about Peyton Manning, his time here, his release, and now his homecoming. We’re all going to deal with it differently. I’ve chosen to write about it and have done so a few times, both here and on Pigskin ‘N Pearls.
The point is, we’re all Colts fans. I don’t care if you show up on Sunday night in a Peyton Manning jersey, an Andrew Luck jersey, or a Mike Vanderjagt jersey. As long as it’s a Colts jersey, I’m good with it. And as long as you’re cheering for the Colts. And cheering loudly!
We’ve been through a lot together. More than most fans. Not more than Browns fans. But then again, who has?
We didn’t let Peyton Manning’s departure tear us apart…and we sure as hell won’t let his return!
Honor Peyton Manning in your own way this week. But respect your fellow fan. Be kind to each other. And don’t judge.
Because, there may be tears shed on Sunday night. There may even be bloodshed. Hopefully, not any of ours…
But, at the end of the day…we’re family. One big, happy, slightly dysfunctional family.
And when we bleed…we bleed blue. Colts blue.
Together, we are ColtStrong.
So, stick together.
